What is trademark? Trademark is a legally protected brand name. It identifies the source of a product or service and distinguishes the products or services of one business from those of others. Trademark can also be called brand name, trade name, or service mark.
Trademark or trade mark is the distinctive sign, design or symbol legally adopted to identify the source of goods and services. For example, Google is a trademark for the search engine, and Marlboro is a trademark for cigarettes. A trademark may be your brand name, slogan, product design and/or packaging, shape of goods or words used to describe your goods and service. Trademark can be categorized as personal property and therefore be transferred through sale or licensing.
Before you start your business, you must ensure that you have your trademark and name registered. While having a registered trademark gives you exclusive rights and ownership to it, it also lets people know who are behind the brand.
